Arkano
A downloadable game
Arkano is a dynamic, luck-and-challenge-based board game where players race to activate the central Yellow Button (the ultimate objective) by navigating a track driven by risk-reward movement.
The main idea of the game is a fun game for friends or family which challenges them to get out of their comfort zone and have fun. The game is played as follows:
1. Each player picks a token and places it at the starting point, then they pick a paper blindly to move one step. If the player picks a pink tile, they'll move two steps, if they pick a blue tile they'll move one step.
2. Along the journey, the players pass by different gates. In those gates, they'll find a fun challenge to perform, a mathematical question to answer, or a general knowledge question with Yes/No answer to access the next tile after the gate. OR they could find an order to return to the starting point or an earlier point all over again.
Players begin at two separate points on the board, initiating a directional race or duel. One side is permanently set to move clockwise, and the opposing side is locked into counter-clockwise movement.
Gates (On/Off Access)
The silver building on the game are strategic points on the track, known as Gates, force players to pause and engage with a core challenge mechanic, disrupting the flow and demanding player interaction. The gates themselves are binary points of access:
- Gate ON (Access Granted): Success in the challenge (the performance is "switched ON") grants access and allows the player to continue the race.
- Gate OFF (Access Denied): Failure or a penalty card effectively keeps the gate "switched OFF," denying access and forcing a halt or reversal.
- Inside each gate, there is either a question, a fun challenge, a mathematical question, if the player failed, he either returns back to a number or he remains in his place.
Here are the rules for the game Arkano:
- Each player chooses a token and places it at the starting point.
- The movement cards (pink and blue) and the challenge/negative order cards are shuffled and placed face down near the board.
- The game proceeds in turns, with players agreeing on who starts first.
- To move, the player blindly draws one movement card.
- If a pink card is drawn, the player moves two steps. If a blue card is drawn, the player moves one step.
- Upon landing on a Gate, the player stops and draws one Challenge Card.
- If the player draws a Positive Challenge (Fun Dare) and successfully performs it, they are allowed to pass the gate and receive one extra step as a reward.
- If the player draws a Negative Order (The Reset), they must execute the order immediately (e.g., return to the start) and lose their next turn.
- To win, the player must reach the final tile (the Yellow Button, which has a treasure underneath) in the center.
- Successfully passing a Gate challenge awards the player the +1 step bonus required to land on the Golden Tile, which is the only way to advance from one circle to the next. This mandatory progression system forces players to engage with challenges for forward movement, making Golden Tiles the key strategic checkpoints. To win the game, players must successfully traverse every Golden Tile on the path toward the central Yellow Button.
